    THE CANAL'S STONES REMOVAL

There are two rock formations which render more difficult both maneuvering and wharfing within the estuary. Their characteristics follow:

              Teffé - 57 thousand m3
              Itapema - 24 thousand m3

Their removal, making compatible the dephts within the whole estuary shall improve the Port's conditions of navigation and shall imcrease the number of areas for lease and those presenting wharfing conditions.

    SANUTARY MEASURES

The Port of Santos has had close relationship with the urban areas of two cities: Santos, on the right margin, and Guarujá, on the left.

On Santos' side, specially by the former regions, there is no separation between the port and the community, be it physical or of other nature.

On the other margin, unorganized housing nuclei established on low fields without any sanitation can be found very close to the port areas.

The implementation of sewage facilities and waste services shall claim investments in order to achieve significant results concerning the present level of sanitation.

MAKING THE ORGANIZED PORT'S AREAS AVAILABLE

The Organized Port of Santos is not yet completely in use by port activities, be it because third parties have improperly occupied pieces of land for living (especially on the left margin), or because a part of its ground needs recovery works.

There are plans to make available all areas which are still not being used in port activities as a means to make feasible the implementation of projects technically and economically viable.
